Hawassa City is set to host a major 5-kilometer Great Run, jointly organized by Commercial Nominees PLC and renowned Ethiopian athlete Gezahegne Abera.
To ensure the successful staging of the event, the organizers have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Hawassa City Administration Mayor’s Office. The agreement outlines areas of cooperation related to event preparation, coordination, and implementation.
The race is expected to promote Hawassa as a tourist destination while encouraging physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle among the public. Under the partnership, the organizers and the city administration will jointly undertake preparatory activities and oversee operational arrangements for the event.
The MoU was signed by Commander Tilahun Tsegaye, Chief Executive Officer of Commercial Nominees PLC, and H.E. Mr. Henok Balguda, representing the Hawassa City Administration Mayor’s Office.
The Hawassa City Great Run is scheduled to take place on April 26, 2026 (Miazia 18, 2018 E.C.), and is expected to attract more than 15,000 participants, including elite athletes, youth, women, and members of the wider community.
Following the signing ceremony, discussions were also held between Commercial Nominees PLC and the Hawassa City Administration on additional areas of collaboration.
